Dust off your skis and snowboards, it’s time to return to your favorite winter sport! Ski season in Lake Tahoe kicked off this week with the opening of several resorts. Thanks low temperatures that aided snowmaking in early November, some resorts were able to open earlier than they had originally anticipated!
As of right now, a major winter storm is bearing down on the region which should only continue to improve the situation. While some rain will come with the storm, at higher elevations it will produce significant base-building snow which should allow resorts to expand terrain quickly.
Here’s what you need to know about the resorts that are already open:
Early Openers
- Mount Rose Ski Tahoe: Opened on November 11, being the first to offer skiing and riding in the region.
- Heavenly Mountain Resort: Opened on November 20, two days ahead of schedule.
- Palisades Tahoe: Starting its 75th anniversary season on November 22 with runs open on both the Alpine Meadows and Palisades base areas. This opening was 5 days ahead of their previously announced opening date.
- Northstar California: Opened on November 21, one day ahead of their scheduled opening.
Other Opening Dates
- Sugar Bowl and Boreal: Opened on November 22.
- Sierra-at-Tahoe and Soda Springs: Scheduled for November 29.
- Kirkwood Mountain Resort: Set to open on December 6.
